Manufacturing handover

Design and build documentation, ready for handover.

Prepare compatible revisions, component specifications and practical instructions for the intended assembler, prototype build or engineering review.

Design documentation and build preparation

  • Revision control
  • BOM and substitutions
  • Assembly and test documentation

Prepare the package for its intended recipient

A handover can cover PCB files, firmware source and assembly information for a particular build or review. Agree the recipient's requirements first, then reconcile revisions and distinguish approved choices from proposed alternatives. Include unresolved questions and the checks required before a release decision.

01

Revision consistency

Align schematic, PCB, component list and firmware references. Record changes from the previous package so the recipient can identify the intended combination of files.

02

Component and sourcing records

Specify component identities, packages and ratings in the bill of materials. Separate approved alternatives from candidates. Check availability when required without implying a continuing supply guarantee.

03

Assembly and initial testing

Document orientation, connections, programming and configuration for the intended build. State expected test results and unresolved issues; assembly alone does not establish performance.

Engineering process

Project
process.

  1. 01

    Confirm handover requirements

Agree the intended build or review, file formats and responsibilities for purchasing, assembly, programming and testing. Identify missing information.

  2. 02

    Reconcile files and revisions

Compare source files, exported design data and the component list. Record discrepancies and separate superseded versions from the intended package.

  3. 03

    Document build instructions

As agreed, prepare assembly details, programming steps, firmware build requirements and approved substitutions. Identify dependencies and configuration requirements.

  4. 04

    Review package completeness

Check the contents against the agreed requirements. Include outstanding issues and a verification plan, leaving production release subject to the appropriate approval.

Depending on the agreed scope

Project
deliverables.

  • A revision-indexed design and source package
  • A bill of materials with approved alternatives
  • Agreed assembly, programming and build notes
  • A test plan and outstanding-issues record

These are possible handover outputs, not claims of completed production. Factory procurement, component supply, assembly and production release require separate agreement and approvals.
